Welcome to our first Macmillan Physical Activity team blog. We’re a passionate group of staff who live, work and play physical activity every day. The blog gives us the opportunity to share project successes, lessons learned and highlight what is happening across the UK to support people affected by cancer to be more physically active.
There is emerging evidence that being physically active during and after cancer treatment can have a significant impact on clinical and quality of life outcomes. Macmillan is pioneering this new area, developing services and lobbying for change across the UK. The team currently supports 60 physical activity projects nationwide, working together to improve the quality and quantity of local physical activity services, so they are then available to people affected by cancer. The programme includes research and development, influencing, implementation and evaluation, and will establish Macmillan as the leading organisation in cancer and physical activity.
You’ll find us working in partnership with national experts, the NHS, local and national policy makers and commissioners, the media, researchers, leisure providers and people affected by cancer to develop and test physical activity behaviour change services.
